Xiao Zhai

PhD, Simulation Research Engineer @ Weta FX

I develop simulation technologies behind the invisible VFX, specializing in computational elastic solid mechanics and high-fidelity multi-physics technologies for major film productions like Avatar: The Way of Water. As a Simulation R&D Tech Lead, I create physics tools that enable virtual environments to interact naturally with artist creations.

A key contribution was co-designing and developing our multiphysics framework Loki, then integrating it into Weta's production pipeline. This unified system allows different simulation elements to work together, greatly expanding creative possibilities for filmmakers.
